Optimizing Wake-Up Sensor Design for Industrial Use
Challenge:
A late-stage medical startup needed a reliable wake-up sensor for a battery-powered device. Their initial design relied on a costly rechargeable battery system and a normally-closed reed switch, which risked battery drain if the device wasn’t returned to its charging cradle.
Solution:
Standex Detect collaborated closely with the client to redesign the system using a magnetic fastener and a normally-open reed switch, eliminating the need for a charging cradle. The switch was activated by a magnet only during actual use, enabling a shift to a lower-cost primary battery.
