Whether your application requires a digital on/off confirmation of position or continuous monitoring of relative positions with analog or digital outputs such as magnetic detection of linear & angular position, we offer a variety of magnetic sensing solutions. Digital Position Sensors (Single Point Detection)
For digital outputs for confirming position, there are several styles of sensors available.
- Hall sensors can be programmed for precise switching. This can be applied to both single channel and dual channel sensors and use actuators that are either magnet or ferrous targets.
- Single Channel Hall Switches provide 1 digital output that will turn on when they detect a magnet. These sensors can detect when the target is moving towards the sensor or passing the sensor face. Dual Output Hall Switches provide an output for each magnetic pole for two position outputs in the same package.
- Ferrous Metal Proximity Sensors provide 1 digital output that turns on when steel is present. 275VPD sensors can be custom programmed for turning on/off at specific gaps.
- Coded Alignment Sensing Systems are tamper-proof Hall Switches for uses in applications where the end user may try and fool the system that the target is in position using a different magnet.
- Magnetic Tape Tracking Sensors are mounted to the bottom of Automated Guided Vehicles to track the position of the vehicle and keep it centered over the magnetic tape path.
Analog Position Sensors
- Analog Hall Sensors provide an analog output that increases or decreases dependent on the strength of the magnetic field.
- Ferrous Metal Position Sensors provide an analog output that increases as steel approaches or passes by the sensor face.
- Angular Position Sensors combine an sensor paired with a magnet that outputs an analog output voltage relative to the angle of rotation.
Rotational Position Sensors (Angular Position)
- Quadrature Gear Tooth Sensors can resolve angular position when wired to a programmed Counter. The count will increase when rotation occurs in one direction and decrease when rotation. The count can be scaled to a value relative to the numbers of degrees of change per tooth.
Note: Quadrature Gear tooth sensors are built and calibrated specific to the target form they are detecting, several Application Notes are available describing why this is important and how to design targets for directional or non-directional counting.
When using magnets and Hall Effect Switches or Analog Hall Sensors the size shape, and material of the magnet will factor into the position they are able to detect. This Application Note provides charts showing operate gap ranges for different sensor types and magnet sizes. Magnets can also be detected through non-ferrous target such as aluminum or plastic cases.
Target magnets are available with the South Pole Marked for use with our sensors. Magnets are also available mounted into bolts and other threaded targets for easy installation or built into two piece clamping collars for mounting direct to rotating shafts.
